The
Law
The legislation presently regulating corporate and commercial
practice in Nigeria are Companies and Allied Matters Decree 1990
(as amended in 1991). The Securities and Exchange Commission Decree
1988, also promulgated were both The Nigerian Investment Promotion
Commission Decree of 1995; The Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and
Miscellaneous Provisions) Decree of 1995.
The two decrees of 1995 were promulgated for the purpose of promoting
dealings in foreign funds by authorized persons. The promulgation
of both decrees is expected to bring about an influx of foreign
investment.
The law realing to corporate taxation matters in Nigeria is comprehensively
contained in the Companies Income Tax Act of 1990.
